our Neighborhood

Impacting our community begins the minute we step out our front door.  It starts with our neighbors!  As we drive to work, take the dog for a walk, shovel the driveway, get the mail, mow the lawn, or throw a ball around the yard, we see people doing life, on a regular basis, that we have something in common with -- our neighborhood!  We are choosing to focus on serving our neighbor, changing the culture of our neighborhood, and ultimately, changing how we choose to live our lives.

We like to think we "go big by going home!"  We go big for God, when we are part of large, extravagant, well-done events requiring a lot of time and energy to plan and organize them.  However, large events are not always necessary to have a large impact or make a big difference.  The exact same feeling of celebration and joy can happen when we have a party, invite friends over for dinner, or make time to hangout and play cards.  "Go Big By Going Home" encourages us to make space for others.  These gatherings need to include family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors, one spiritual conversation, and an opportunity to enjoy life together.

For some, the hardest part is a "spiritual conversation."  Maybe surprisingly, the conversation will be less about talking and more about a posture of listening.
For example,
  • Some people are talking and the word "cancer" comes up.  This is an opportunity to share your story of how cancer affected your life and the place Jesus had in it.
  • You are taking about your kids.  You share something they did with your church or how they lived out something they learned from a Bible story.
A spiritual conversation takes the moment, and relationships,
to a new level.
